Spectral Feature Fitting (SFF)

Spectral Feature Fitting (SFF) is an algorithm that evaluates how well a pixel matches a reference mineral spectrum. Instead of comparing the entire spectrum at once, it splits it into smaller wavelength ranges — each capturing a key absorption feature of a given mineral. The fit is calculated separately for each interval.

In TerraEye, SFF layers are calculated from hyperspectral satellite data — such as EMIT, EnMAP, and PRISMA. Values closer to 1 indicate a better match to the reference mineral spectrum.


How to Use the Spectral Feature Fitting (SFF) Layer?

  1. Go to the Data tab, expand Mineral Prospecting - SFF, and click Add layer next to the mineral you want to analyze.
  2. Use the sliders to adjust the value range. Values closer to 1 indicate a better match to the reference mineral spectrum.
  3. Customize the layer appearance by changing its color or switching to gradient mode in the layer properties.
